Welcome
FOX BAY RETREAT is situated on the shore of famous Lake Laberge in Canada’s northern Yukon Territory. Lake Laberge is 30-mile long lake and is part of the legendary Yukon River. The river flows south to north through the lake. In the pioneer years of the territory, it was named for Michael Laberge, a French Canadian who worked as part of a team surveying a northern telegraph to connect North America to the Russian Continent. During the Klondike Gold Rush days the renowned northern poet Robert Service immortalized the name of the lake in his poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee”:
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was the night on the marge of Lake Laberge
I cremated Sam McGee

FOX BAY RETREAT is named for Fox Creek that runs near the property. It is owned and operated by Scott and Joanne McDougall who also own and operate Kanoe People Ltd. They have been treating visitors from all over the world to Yukon hospitality for more than 30 years.
IN THE SUMMER come and play under the midnight sun. Take a canoe or kayak and paddle the quiet bays and inlets of Lake Laberge. Take in the tranquility of the lake at rest or listen to a natural concert of windswept waves spending themselves on the beach.
Climb a hill and watch the midnight sun dip briefly behind the skyline. The natural wonders at FOX BAY RETREAT will take your breath away. It is an uncluttered playground where the raw sounds of nature are the daily standard.
IN THE WINTER inhale the crispness of an early morning. Tie on the skis or snowshoes and make your personal mark on a downy blanket of fresh snow. Watch the phenomena of the Aurora Borealis, also known as the northern lights, from a hill high above the camp.
Take a snow machine ride, or do a little ice fishing. Take a midnight sleigh ride under the star-studded northern night sky.
The winter AURORA TOUR and the summer MIDNIGHT SUN TOUR are suggested itineraries. Don’t have the time or inclination to join an organized tour, make up your own and we can accommodate you with a guide, equipment, victuals or whatever. Rent a cabin by the day or week. In summer complete your stay by renting a canoe, kayak, boat or bicycle. In winter supplement the experience by renting snowshoes, snow machine or skis.
