Tour Description
Yukon Aurora Tour
– 5 days – fully guided
(includes arrival and departure days)
A made to order trip for those that want a true Yukon winter experience in a picture perfect setting. Fox Bay Retreat is situated on the shore of Lake Laberge, just north of the capital City of Whitehorse, Yukon. This 30-mile long lake is part of the legendary Yukon River, which flows south to north through the lake. It is named for Michael Laberge, a French Canadian pioneer. The renowned northern poet Robert Service immortalized the name of the lake in his poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee” the first lines of which are unforgettable.
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights, But the queerest they ever did see Was the night on the marge of Lake Laberge I cremated Sam McGee
True Yukon hospitality awaits you and your stay at Fox Bay Retreat will be filled with wonderful northern memories. During the four days and 3 nights you spend at Lake Laberge the slated activities not only include an introduction to the phenomena of AURORA BOREALIS, but also takes in such exciting things as MUSHING your own team of dogs and a personal SNOW MACHINE TOUR on the snowy expanse of Lake Laberge. As if that isn’t enough we offer a winter interpretive trail hike and or a snowshoe walk in the woods during which you learn all about animal tracks and how our northern fauna survive the cold winters in the Yukon. At any time you can also take a personal snowshoe walk or try your skill at cross-country skiing.
The true north reveals itself around the bonfire each evening. Starlit skies, the lonely cry of a coyote or wolf, the questioning call of a snowy owl and the frosty crackle of the surrounding trees are all new sounds to someone from “outside” as we refer to anyplace beyond our borders.
In the afternoon of day four we head for Whitehorse and a night in a local hotel. That same evening you are our quest at one of our fine restaurants for dinner. [some limitations apply]
We include:
Airport service – Hotel accommodation day 4 – double occupancy – all meals at Fox Bay Retreat – 2 hour dog mushing excursion – minimum 2 hour snow machine excursion – an afternoon of ice fishing and nightly Aurora viewing if nature co-operates.
