Kayaking on Lake Laberge

 

A six day – five night, all-inclusive tour full of activities and adventure under the midnight sun in the perfect wilderness setting at FOX BAY RETREAT on the shore of world famous Lake Laberge.

 

Panoramic

 

Take a canoe or kayak and paddle the clear waters of the lake. Wet a line and bring a fish home for lunch. Enjoy the solitude of a day wandering the endless shoreline and have a picnic at midnight under the northern sky.

 

Cabin

 

The itinerary is designed to please the most discerning outdoor fan. All activities are optional to you and you can chose to participate in one or all of them or to simply lay back and enjoy the scenery for an hour or two, a day or two or whatever you wish.

 

Day 1 – SATURDAY

Arrival at Whitehorse International airport.
Transfer to a City Hotel (provided)
Meet your guides and fellow travelers and acquaint yourself with Whitehorse. There are a number of City activities available including a museum visit, a nightly vaudeville show or a visit to an open market and craft show.

 

For dinner tonight and breakfast on Sunday morning, you are on your own. There are a number of fine restaurant choices in the City.

 

DAY 2 – SUNDAY

AM transfer to FOX BAY RETREAT.
The ride out to Lake Laberge takes approximately 1 hour. We travel both the Alaska Highway and the Klondike highway before we take an 18 km country road that meanders along Fox Creek into the Camp on the shore of Lake Laberge.

 

Kayak Instructions


A canoe and kayak course is scheduled after lunch and the rest of the day is filled with an activity of your choice. There are canoes, kayaks, bikes and boats to choose from. Fishing licenses are available from your guides.

 

Click to enlargeDAY 3 – MONDAY

After breakfast, we pack a lunch and by canoe or kayak we paddle to Richtofen Island, a large island just outside FOX BAY. There is fish in the depth of the rocky shoreline of the island and it is also the site of an old bunkhouse stage stop that served as a haven for White Pass & Yukon Route river steamer and dog mushing personnel during the early years of the last century. A shore lunch is served on the island before we return to FOX BAY in the afternoon.

An afternoon of fishing the lake for trout and northern pike or fishing Fox Creek for arctic grayling are scheduled activities. A campfire cookout for lunch, a BBQ dinner at twilight are all options. Your guides are knowledgeable outdoor people and an interpretive morning hike into the hills can be a very rewarding experience.

DAY 6 – THURSDAY

An early transfer into Whitehorse to catch the flight home. For those having a late afternoon or evening flight there is time to enjoy the many sights of Whitehorse before you are due at the airport.

 

ADDITIONAL TOUR INFORMATION.

The activities described in this itinerary are optional to the individual. Some of the activities will also depend on the prevailing weather at the time of scheduling. Additional road trips into the City are available at a cost of $100.00 per trip. This cost can be shared between participants.

 

HOTEL ACCOMODATION

Hotel accommodation on day one is based on double occupancy. For singles there is a $95. supplemental charge.

 

FOX BAY RETREAT ACCOMMODATION

As you can see from the accompanying photographs we have a number of choices in accommodation available. There are small, medium and large cabins. Some are log cabins some are not. Lodging is provided in two person (double) and four person (quad) cabins. The large cabin can house a group of family of five to six persons. Each cabin is set up with housekeeping facilities and each has a wood stove for heat. With our fully guided trips the meals are provided by our staff in the large main cabin.

 

The camp is totally self-contained. We have our own electrical generators that are used on a posted schedule basis. There is a wash house/shower/toilet facility that is open all day and evening. The use of this washhouse facility is restricted to the time of electrical generator use. Each cabin also has its own outdoor toilet (outhouse). Each guest cabin is also equipped with full housekeeping facilities that include a propane stove and propane lights. There is a woodstove for warmth.

 

TOUR PRICING

With FOX BAY double accommodation $ 1440. per person
With FOX BAY triple or quad accommodation $1295. per person
With FOX BAY single accommodation $1690.00 per peson.

 

EXTENDING YOUR STAY

At the time of reserving your holiday this itinerary may be extended to seven days at a cost of $250. per person.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION AND CONDITIONS

Reservations: A 25% deposit is required at the time of booking your stay. The balance of your tour costs is payable 30 days prior to your arrival date. The deposit is refundable up to 30 days prior to your arrival. There is a $100.00 cancellation fee. There is no refund of a deposit or tour price should you cancel during the 30 days prior to the scheduled arrival date, however 50% of your payment may be applied to any of our services during the next 12 months. This includes both summer and winter activities offered by FOX BAY RETREAT or KANOE PEOPLE LTD (see www.kanoepeople.com)
